Capacity Boosts
One-time purchases to increase voter capacity, SMS credits, or email credits for a specific session. Ideal for large meetings, annual elections, and high-attendance events.
What Are Capacity Boosts?
Every VoteAlly plan includes a base voter capacity and email quota per session. When you need to accommodate more voters, send more emails, or enable SMS notifications for a particular session, Capacity Boosts let you purchase additional capacity on a one-time, per-session basis.
Boosts are not subscriptions. You buy exactly what you need for a specific session, and the added capacity stays with that session permanently. There is no recurring charge and no expiration date.
Enterprise plans already include unlimited voters and emails, so boosts are primarily useful for organizations on Free or Pro plans that occasionally need extra capacity.
Types of Boosts
Session Capacity Boost (Voter Capacity)
Adds voter capacity to a single session. For example, a +500 boost raises your session's voter limit by 500 on top of the base plan limit. Multiple tiers are available, from +100 to +15,000 voters.
Tip: Email quota scales automatically with capacity boosts. For every voter added by a boost, your session gains 3 additional email sends. A +500 voter boost also adds 1,500 to your email quota for that session.
SMS Credit Boost
Adds SMS sending credits for a specific session at $0.10 per credit (USA and Canada). SMS credits allow you to send text message invitations and reminders to voters who have phone numbers on file.
Two purchase options are available in the checkout:
- Match Capacity (recommended): automatically matches your session's effective voter capacity, so you have enough credits for one SMS per voter. Adjusts dynamically if you also add voter capacity boosts in the same checkout.
- 100-Credit Packages: add fixed blocks of 100 credits at $10 each. You can add multiple packages.
Both options are independent and can be combined in a single purchase. For example, you can select Match Capacity and then add two 100-credit packages on top.
Email Credit Boost
Adds extra email sends beyond your session's base quota. Sold in packages of 1,000 credits at $20 per package ($0.02 per email). These credits stack on top of both your plan's base email quota and any email capacity gained from voter boosts.
Email boosts are useful when you need to send more rounds of reminders or notices than the base quota allows, without increasing your voter capacity.

Tip: The email quota formula is 3 emails per voter. This covers one invitation, one reminder, and one notice per voter. When you add a voter capacity boost, the email quota increases automatically using the same formula.

Higher tiers have a lower per-voter cost. You can mix and match tiers and purchase up to 3 of each tier per checkout.
How to Purchase
Navigate to your session
Open the voting session you want to boost in the admin dashboard. Boosts are purchased per session, so you need to be viewing the specific session that needs additional capacity.
Open the boost cart
Find the Plan Usage section on the session page. Click the "Purchase Boosts" button in the Add-ons card to open the boost cart dialog.
Build your boost package
Select the voter capacity tiers you need (mix and match). Optionally add SMS credits and email credits. The cart shows a running total as you add items.
Complete Stripe checkout
Click "Checkout" to proceed to Stripe. Pay with any major credit or debit card. After payment, you are redirected back to VoteAlly and the boost is applied automatically.
Verify the boost
The Plan Usage card on your session page updates to reflect the new effective capacity. You can immediately add more voters up to the new limit.
Tip: You can also purchase boosts from the Billing page in your organization settings. The billing page lists all your sessions, so you can select any session to boost without navigating to it first.
Key Details
Boosts apply to a single session. They are not organization-wide. Each session you want to boost requires its own purchase.
Boosts can be stacked. Buy multiple capacity tiers, multiple SMS packages, or multiple email packages. All are combined with your base plan limit.
Boosts do not expire. Once applied, the added capacity remains for the lifetime of the session.
Voter capacity boosts automatically increase the session's email quota at a rate of 3 emails per voter added. No separate email purchase is needed unless you want even more.
Important: Boost purchases are final and non-refundable. Boosts are applied to your session immediately after payment. Make sure you select the correct session before completing checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer boosts between sessions?
No. Boosts are tied to the specific session you select at purchase. They cannot be moved to a different session. If you need capacity for a new session, purchase a separate boost for that session.
Do boosts carry over to cloned sessions?
No. When you clone a session, the clone starts with your base plan limits. Boosts from the original session do not carry over. You will need to purchase new boosts for the cloned session if needed.
What payment methods are accepted?
Boosts are purchased through Stripe Checkout. All major credit and debit cards are accepted, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
Can I get a refund on unused boosts?
Boost purchases are final. Because boosts are applied immediately to your session capacity, they cannot be refunded. If you have a billing concern, contact support for assistance.
Do boosts expire?
No. Once a boost is applied to a session, the added capacity remains for the lifetime of that session. There is no time-based expiration.
Can I stack multiple boosts on the same session?
Yes. You can purchase multiple boosts of the same or different tiers. The capacity from all boosts is combined and added to your base plan limit. You can add up to 3 of each tier per checkout.
How does the email quota formula work?
Your session email quota is calculated as (base voter limit + boost voters) x 3, plus any purchased email credit boosts. For example, a Free plan session (50 voters) with a +500 boost has an email quota of (50 + 500) x 3 = 1,650 emails, before any email credit boosts.
Can I buy SMS credits without a voter capacity boost?
Yes. SMS credits, email credits, and voter capacity boosts are all independent. You can buy any combination, including SMS-only or email-only.
